During our nearly 10 years of operation, I have been the recipient of many heartfelt messages applauding me for my fine work in assisting our less fortunate veterans suffering food insecurity. For that, I am humbled and grateful. But, I must confess the true heroes are the Vittles’ volunteers who dedicate their time and energy, not for recognition or kudos, but solely for the improvement of our at-risk veterans’ situations.
Vittles for Vets would like to express our sincere gratitude to Nick McNeil for donating the use of the Little River Bluegrass Barn to Vittles for Vets for the “Bluegrass Concert” fundraising event, benefiting our veteran neighbors suffering food insecurity, for the 2nd year in a row.
Also, a huge SHOUT OUT to Scott Patrick for organizing this event and his outstanding Bluegrass band, Lonesome Heart, for donating their time and energy, for the 2nd year, to assist our less fortunate veterans in Southwest VA.

Vittles for Vets was honored to have been chosen as the beneficiary of such humility this past weekend as we participated in a benefit memorial motorcycle run to honor Mr. Paul “Peppy” Platt, fulfilling his final wish.
Paul, an Air Force veteran, Vittles for Vets volunteer, and member of the Augusta County Bikers, requested his “biker brothers and sisters” to honor his memory by paying tribute at selected stops along the Blue Ridge Parkway

For the past several years, Vittles for Vets has been supported by student volunteers from the Student Association of Military Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (SAMOPS) at the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) in Blacksburg. This student-lead organization recognizes the unique position that osteopathic physicians hold within the US Armed Forces and the defense of our nation. We had a great time at our Bowling Spooktacular on Halloween night, hosted by It’s Game Time At The Superbowl! We were visited by a pretty Princess, Spiderman, Evil Colonel Sanders and his chicken, Ghost Face & the Myers Twins, but we weren’t able to catch pics of the Jail Bird, Police Officer, the Smurfs or the Lorax running around!
